tong is accused of robbing a bank of america the day after election day. he handed the teller a demand note and left with $1,700. police say they identified him through fingerprints and surveillance videos. he's behind bars facing several felony robbery charges. >>> tense moments at the oakland airport today. alleged bomb making materials were found during a security screening. a man from southern california was promptly arrested. cheryl hurd joins from us oakland international. a news conference just wrapped up. what do we know now? >> reporter: that's right. alameda county sheriffs are not releasing a picture of the watch but i did get a glimpse at it. it is silver in color. it had wires coming out of it. it had a toggle switch on it. the man arrested called it art but it did not look like art to me. here's a picture of the man arrested. his name is jeffrey mcgann. 49 years old from southern california. police say he was here for a one-day trip. he flew in around 11:00 and attempted to fly out at 7:00 p.m. tsa officials flagged the watch down as he was going through screening.

announced it will no longer give grants to the boy scouts of america because of the organization's exclusion of gays and lesbians. the announcement came after an online petition, protesting ups's annual grants to the boy scouts that petition gathered 80,000 signatures. ups says it will not give grants to any organization which discriminates on sexual orientation, race, religion or ethnicity. they gave $100,000 to the boy scouts in 2010. >> we'll be back in a moment. >>> fairfield police are searching for three men who robbed this jewelry store last friday. this is the surveillance video of the robbery. the suspects entered nandin jewelry store just after it opened, physically restrained two employees inside. police say the employees were held at gunpoint while the other gunmen, two men grabbed the jewelry from several display cases. neither of the employees thankfully were injured. >>> now let's check in with jessica aguirre for a look at what is coming up next on nbc bay area. >> it turns out the occupy movement has found a new mission. next on "nightly news," how some of the prot

a big day for america. steve, thank you so much. >>> in the bay area, the count is on. hundreds of thousands of ballots being counted as we speak. early voting is the hot trend, and it's changing the dynamic of this election. nbc bay area's damian trujillo takes us behind the scenes. he joins us at a very busy registrar of voters office in san jose. damian, it's probably controlled chaos i presume. >> reporter: that's what i would call it. this is one of the drop-off a locations for your ballots. this will be open for the next 24 hours so you can drive up androf up your ballot in there. if not, these people will be here for the next couple of hours. you can drive up and give them your signed ballots. this is now the preferred choice for voting here in the south bay. there is little time to allow the sorting machines to cool off at the county registrar's office. the agency sends out more than 600,000 vote by mail ballots, and a lot of them are coming back. >> we received back over 262,000. that means that about 43% of the ballots that have been issued have already been returned in.
